Privacy policy & PDPA notice
How SYRES Singapore handles your personal data.
This notice explains what SYRES Pte Ltd collects, why, who sees it and how long it is kept, under Singapore’s Personal Data Protection Act 2012 (PDPA). It applies to visitors of this website, to brands that brief us and to panellists who test products with us.
1. Who we are
SYRES Pte Ltd (“SYRES”, “we”), 391B Orchard Road, Ngee Ann City Level 22, Singapore 238874, is a consumer research company and part of the SYRES group, founded in France in 1997. We are the organisation responsible for the personal data described here. Our Data Protection Officer can be reached at team@syres.sg.
2. What we collect
If you are a brand or a business contact
Your name, company, work email, phone number if you give it, and the content of your brief or messages. This is what you type into the brief form, send by email or tell us on WhatsApp or during a call.
If you are a panellist or apply to join the panel
- Identity and contact: name, date of birth, gender, ethnicity, mobile number, email, residential address and postal code, occupation.
- Verification: a recent selfie, used only to check that your declared profile matches the person who tests, and the delivery or collection preference you choose.
- Profile data you declare: skin, hair and scalp characteristics, sensitivities and allergies, cosmetic and hygiene routines, dietary habits, supplements taken, household composition and products used, pets, lifestyle habits such as sport, smoking or sleep. Some of this is health-related and therefore sensitive; we ask for it only because it decides which tests you can safely and usefully take part in.
- Study data: your answers to screeners and questionnaires, the photos you may be asked to submit during a test, reported reactions or discomfort, and the record of tests completed and e-vouchers sent.
- Where you heard about us and, if you were referred, the name of the panellist who referred you.
If you visit this website
Server logs (IP address, browser, pages requested) and, if you accept them, analytics cookies. See Cookies.
3. Why we collect it
- To reply to a brief, propose and run a study, and invoice it.
- To decide which studies to invite you to as a panellist, to confirm your eligibility, to deliver test kits, to follow the test and to send your e-voucher.
- To protect your safety: to avoid inviting you to a product you may react to, and to respond if you report a reaction.
- To produce anonymised, aggregated research results for our clients.
- To keep our benchmark database of anonymised study results.
- To run, secure and improve this website.
- To comply with the law, including the PDPA and our ISO 9001 and ISO 27001 obligations.
We do not sell personal data. We do not use panellist data for advertising.
4. Consent and withdrawal
You give consent when you submit the sign-up form, the brief form, or when you accept a study invitation. You can withdraw it at any time by writing to team@syres.sg or on WhatsApp +65 9677 6179. We will tell you the consequences: for a panellist, withdrawal means leaving the panel and ending any test in progress. We stop using your data within a reasonable time after your request, except where the law requires us to keep it.
5. Who sees your data
- Our clients receive study results in aggregated or anonymised form: tables, coded verbatims and, where the study requires it, photos with identifying features removed. They do not receive your name or contact details unless you expressly agree, for instance for a filmed interview.
- The SYRES group (SYRES SAS, France) provides shared systems, quality control and multi-country coordination under the same standards.
- Service providers acting on our instructions: web hosting, form and email services, delivery couriers (who receive your name, address and phone number to deliver a kit), e-voucher providers, and WhatsApp for messaging.
- Authorities, when the law requires it.
6. Transfers outside Singapore
Our website and panel databases are hosted in the European Union, where the SYRES group is based, and some providers operate from other countries. Where personal data leaves Singapore, we ensure the recipient is bound by legally enforceable obligations to protect it to a standard comparable to the PDPA, as section 26 of the Act requires, and the European Union’s GDPR applies to the group’s processing there.
7. How long we keep it
- Panellist profile: as long as you are an active panellist. After three years without any participation, or on your request, your profile is deleted or anonymised.
- Selfie: kept while you are on the panel, for verification only, then deleted.
- Study answers and photos: kept in identifiable form for the duration of the study and up to two years after, so that a client’s claim file can be audited; then anonymised and kept as part of our benchmark.
- Reports of reactions: kept as long as required for product safety follow-up.
- Brand contacts and briefs: for the duration of our business relationship and up to three years after the last exchange; invoices for the period required by Singapore tax law.
- Server logs: a few weeks.
8. How we protect it
The SYRES group is certified ISO 27001 for information security and ISO 9001 for quality management. Access to panellist data is limited to the study team, on named accounts. Products are tested blind, so client and panellist identities are not linked in a report. Selfies and health-related data are stored separately from study answers wherever the system allows it.
9. Your rights
Under the PDPA you may ask to access the personal data we hold about you and to learn how it has been used or disclosed in the past year; ask us to correct an error or omission; and withdraw consent as described above. Write to team@syres.sg. We answer within 30 days; if we need longer, we tell you when to expect a reply. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may complain to the Personal Data Protection Commission of Singapore (pdpc.gov.sg).
We do not use your personal data for automated decisions with legal effect. Selection for a study combines your declared profile with a screener you answer yourself, and is confirmed by a person.
10. Cookies
This website sets strictly necessary cookies to remember choices such as a closed pop-up. Analytics cookies are only set if you accept them in the cookie banner; they help us understand which pages are read and are never used to identify you. You can change your choice at any time from the banner or by clearing cookies in your browser.
11. Age
The panel is open to Singapore residents aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18; if you believe a minor has signed up, tell us and we will delete the record.
12. Changes to this notice
We update this page when our practices change. The date at the top tells you the current version. Material changes affecting panellists are also announced by email or WhatsApp.
