Brushing is often the poor relation of canine hygiene. For many owners it is a chore; for many dogs, an ordeal. Yet a recent study proved that with the right tool, the moment can go from “dreaded” to “demanded”. Here is what happened behind the scenes of a consumer test where the four-legged panellists had the last word.
Why brushing matters
It is easy to forget, but daily brushing is a pillar of animal health. Beyond appearance, caring for the coat removes dirt and dead hair before they invade the living room, spreads natural sebum for optimal skin protection, and prevents knots that pull on the skin and can hide irritation or parasites. In short: a well-kept coat means skin that breathes and a dog that feels better.
The brief
One of our clients set a real challenge: formulate a lightly scented detangling mist. Let’s be honest, our companions do not ask to smell of roses; that is the owner’s expectation. The whole art of the formulation lies in subtlety: a discreet fragrance that accompanies the care without assaulting the animal’s sensitive nose, while giving perfect glide to remove knots without pain.
The study
We followed a panel for 28 days. The owners’ feedback was unanimous: a softer, shinier coat and, above all, a markedly more cooperative dog. But the most memorable moment came during the focus group. While we were discussing the results, one of the tester dogs picked up the brush lying on the coffee table and dropped it at his owner’s feet. Probably the most sincere protocol validation we have ever received.
What it tells brands
The aim is no longer just to “wash” the animal but to create moments of complicity. A detangling mist is not a cosmetic gadget; it is a wellbeing facilitator that turns a constraint into a gentle ritual. User experience does not stop with the person holding the bottle. At SYRES we analyse every interaction to guarantee both the product’s efficacy and the animal’s comfort.
