Sensitive skin gets a lot of attention, and a few misconceptions too. Here are three data points from our panel that may well change your perspective.
1. It is not a women’s issue
Contrary to common belief, skin sensitivity does not affect only women. In our panel, 44.3% of women and 44.1% of men say they have sensitive facial skin. Almost identical figures, and yet rarely highlighted.
2. Tightness and redness come first
When skin reacts, tightness (82.7%) and redness (68%) are the most frequently cited symptoms. Visible signs, sometimes uncomfortable, and often hard to ignore, for consumers as much as for brands.
3. After 50, almost one woman in two
Among women over 50, nearly one in two reports sensitive skin. A trend that may be linked to the hormonal changes of menopause, and a lead worth exploring to better adapt formulas and product promises.
Analysing these data, cross-referencing them and drawing concrete lessons is how we help brands develop products truly suited to sensitive skin. Want to know more about what your consumers expect and feel? Let’s talk.
